EPIONE IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY
Epione was a minor goddess of the Greek mythology; Epione being the Greek goddess of the soothing of pain.

Epione was one of the lesser recorded members of the Greek mythology, for no surviving sources records the genealogy of the goddess.
It is also supposition that she was a resident of Mount Olympus, as many of the Greek pantheon were. Epione was the goddess of the soothing of pain, and as such was prayed to when people sought relief from pain and distress. |

Today, Epione is best remembered as the wife of the legendary figure, Asclepius, the mortal who became a god; Asclepius becoming the Greek god of Medicine.
Epione would give birth to a number of children for Asclepius. Two mortal heroes are amongst the sons of Epione, these being Machaon and Podalirius; these two sons being Achaean heroes during the Trojan War.
Other children of Epione and Asclepius were minor deities; Telesphorus, god of recovery from illness, Aceso, goddess of healing process, Aglaea, goddess of beauty, especially the beauty of the human body when in rude health, Hygieia, goddess of cleanliness, Iaso, goddess of recuperation, and Panacea, goddess of universal remedy.
