RHACIUS IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY
Rhacius was a founding figure in Greek mythology, revered for being the first Greek, along with his followers, to settle in Asia Minor
Rhacius the Cretan
Rhacius was named as a son of Lebes, a man otherwise unknown. Rhacius was not specifically regarded as a Cretan prince, but he was strong leader, for he led a fleet of Cretan ships in an invasion of Colophon and Clarus in Asia Minor. At the time, this area of Ionia was predominately controlled by the Carians.
The power and strength of Rhacius’ fleet pushed back the Carians from the coastal regions, and the Greeks established settlements along the coast, although the Carians remained in control further in land. Some name Rhacius thereafter as King of Caria.

Rhacius and Manto
|
Rhacius would marry Manto, daughter of Tiresias. Manto had been directed by the Oracle of Delphi to establish a sanctuary in Colophon; Manto having been sent to Delphi as a prize of war, following the war of the Epigoni.
Manto, and her followers arrived in Colophon, and were there, captured by the Cretans. The captives were sent to Rhacius, and Manto explained why they were in Colophon. |

Rhacius immediately released Manto and her companions. Manto herself, had been given a separate prophecy about marrying the first man she saw in Colophon, and so she and Rhacius were wed.
Rhacius and Manto were then said to have established the Oracle of Apollo at Claros, before building a number of other sanctuaries dedicated to Apollo across Asia Minor.

Rhacius Father of Mopsus
Manto and Rhacius would become parents to a son, Mopsus, who is a famous seer in tales of Greek mythology. Some of course say that Rhacius was not the father of Mopsus, but instead state that Manto had been seduced by the god Apollo.
