EURYMEDUSA IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY
Eurymedusa in Greek Mythology
In Greek mythology, Eurymedusa was a beautiful princess of Phthia. Normally named as a daughter of Cletor, Eurymedusa is nevertheless sometimes called a daughter of the river god Achelous.
Eurymedusa was extremely beautiful, and was said by some to be the wife of Myrmex. This though, did not disuade the god Zeus from seeking to have his way with her.
Zeus came to Phthia and transformed himself into an ant, with some saying Eurymedusa was transformed at the same time. Zeus and Eurymedusa would lie with each other, and this brief union was said to bring forth a son; a son named Myrmidon. Myrmidon was said by some sources to be the eponymous ancestor of all Myrmidons.
An alternative tale tells of Zeus transforming himself into the image of Myrmex, and it was in this form that Zeus seduced Eurymedusa.
