OTRERA IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY
Otrera was commonly named as the first Queen of the Amazons in Greek mythology; the legendary race of warrior women.
The Family of Otrera
It is not entirely clear about who the parents of Otrera were, but it is commonly said that Otrera was the first Queen of the Amazons. This suggests that she was a first generation Amazon, which logically, would make her a daughter of Ares, the God of Bloodlust and Harmonia, the nymph of the Acmonian Woods.
Otrera would become mother of at least two other Amazons, for Penthesilea and Hippolyta were both named as daughters of Otrera and Area. Additionally, the likes of Antiope may also be her offspring. |

Queen Otrera
The Amazons were of course legendary warrior women, and there are two early references to wars against the Amazons, although it is not specifically named that Otrera was present.
A generation before the Trojan War, King Priam with a force of Trojans had joined with Mygdon’s Phrygians in defence of Phrygia against the Amazons. Proceeding this, Bellerophon, at the bequest of Iobates had also defeated an army of Amazons, again presumably an army led by Otrera.
Legend also states that it was Otrera who built the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
