POLYBOTES IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY
In Greek mythology, Polybotes was the name of one of the one hundred Gigantes who resided upon the Pallene.
Polybotes the GigantePolybotes was a Gigante, one of the hundred sons of Gaia, born when the blood of the castrated Ouranos fell upon her. This was normally said to have occurred upon the Phelegra Plain, a land normally equated with the Pallene peninsula of Ancient Thrace.
Not all of the one hundred Gigantes were named, but Polybotes was, and Polybotes thus brother to Eurymedon and Alcyoneus. |

As troublesome as his brothers, Polybotes was born fully armed, and would take an active role in the Gigantomachy, the war between Gigantes and Olympian gods.
The war would turn against the Gigantes though, with the arrival of Heracles.

Polybotes Buried
Polybotes would seek to flee the battlefield, but he was chased by Poseidon. Chased through the sea, Polybotes would pass by the island of Cos. As Poseidon did likewise, so the god broke off a large section of the island, and threw it after the fleeing Gigante.
The lump of rock would land upon Polybotes burying him beneath it, and thus the island of Nisyros was created.
